Parental leave ceiling: 900,000 ISK for all leave taken from 1 January 2026
Since 1 January 2026 the maximum monthly parental leave payment is 900,000 ISK. Under Act no. 94/2025 it applies to all leave taken from that date, whenever the child was born. Before, a new ceiling reached only children born after it took effect (800,000 ISK for children born in 2025, 700,000 ISK before that).
