Frequently asked questions

Questions about using Vagga itself — accounts, pricing, sourcing, community, and privacy. Looking for parental leave, naming, or childcare answers instead? Those live on their own guides.

Getting startedWhat is Vagga?
expand_more

A guide to family life in Iceland — practical guides, parent groups, a family marketplace, and a timeline that tracks the dates you need to hit.

Getting startedDo I need an account?
expand_more

You can read every guide and try the tools without one. To save your timeline, join a group, or pick up where you left off, you'll need a free account — it takes under a minute.

Getting startedIs Vagga free?
expand_more

Yes, while we build it. If that changes, you'll know well before it does — and the guides and public information stay free either way.

Getting startedWhat if I don't know my due date?
expand_more

That's fine — you can start your timeline with your child's age instead, or just browse the guides for your stage. You can add a due date later.

The Icelandic systemHow current is this?
expand_more

Every guide shows when it was last checked. We review content regularly against the official sources it's built on, and correct it when a rule or figure changes.

The Icelandic systemWhere do the numbers come from?
expand_more

From official Icelandic sources — Ísland.is, Vinnumálastofnun (the Directorate of Labour), Registers Iceland (Þjóðskrá), and municipal preschool pages. Every figure links to where it came from.

The Icelandic systemIs this official?
expand_more

No. Vagga is an independent, privately built product — not a government service. We explain and organize official workflows; the official decisions are always made by Ísland.is, Vinnumálastofnun, or your municipality.

ContentWho writes this?
expand_more

A small team of parents and engineers based in Iceland. Every guide is reviewed before it's published and sourced against an official page — or it doesn't go up.

ContentIs it medical advice?
expand_more

No. Vagga is a planning tool, not a medical service. Anything touching pregnancy or health includes a reminder to check with your midwife or doctor.

CommunityWho can see what I post?
expand_more

Posts and comments are visible to other signed-in Vagga members. You can post anonymously — your display name is hidden from other members — though your account still records authorship so reports can be handled.

CommunityIs it moderated?
expand_more

Yes. Members can report a post or comment, and our team reviews reports and can remove content that breaks the rules.

PrivacyWhat do you store?
expand_more

Only what a feature needs — your due date or child's age, selected municipality, account email, and anything you enter into the tools. The full breakdown is on the Trust & Privacy page.

PrivacyDo you need my kennitala?
expand_more

No — it's optional. If you provide one during onboarding, we never store the number itself, only a one-way hash used to stop duplicate accounts.

PrivacyCan I delete my account?
expand_more

Yes, at any time, from your account settings. You can export your data first if you want a copy.
