Built to make family life in Iceland easier to navigate
Vagga is built by parents in Iceland, for parents in Iceland — because the deadlines are real, and no one should have to find that out the hard way.
Why this exists
Vagga started with a missed preschool deadline, a stack of confusing VMST parental leave forms, and a question that kept coming back: why isn't there one place that explains what to do, and when? Iceland's parental system is genuinely good — it's just spread across a dozen portals, forms, and municipal websites, each with its own deadlines and its own language.
Who it's for
Vagga is for parents in Iceland — Icelandic and foreign, expecting a first child or a third. If you're trying to work out what happens next, in what order, and by when, this is for you.
What we are not
- Not a government service.
- Not a medical service.
- Not a replacement for your midwife.
How content is made
Every guide on Vagga is written for Iceland specifically, reviewed before it's published, and sourced — or it doesn't go up. Where we cite a number or a rule, we link to the official page it came from and note when it was last checked.
Where it is now
Vagga is in its testing phase. Everything is free while we build it, and we're building it in the open.
What we hold to
Clarity
We explain complicated things in simple language.
Practicality
We focus on the next step, not the whole encyclopedia.
Local
General advice is useless here, so we write for Iceland.
Transparency
We link the official source and show when we last checked it.
Not a service
We are not a government service and never submit anything on your behalf.
