Eating well in the first trimester
Eating well in the first trimester is mostly about managing nausea, because the ideal diet is irrelevant if you cannot keep it down. Eat what stays down, and worry about balance once the sickness eases. Small frequent meals work better than three large ones, and having something to eat before getting out of bed helps many people. Cold food carries less smell than hot. Fluids matter more than food in the short term. Supplements are usually recommended from before conception onward, and your midwife will confirm which ones and how much.
